According to the results of the half year more foreign brand cars have been produced in russia than that of domestic brand

Within six month 53,2% passenger cars fell to the share of foreign brands. Experts suppose that by the end of the year up to 1 mln cars will be produced in Russia, and sales forecasts make 1,67 mln cars.
In the first half of 2010 production of passenger cars of foreign brands in Russia has exceeded production of domestic brand models. According to agency «Autostat» 489,1 K cars have been produced in Russia from January till June, 260,2 K of them were under foreign brands. Thus, the share of foreign brand cars equaled to 53,2%, while in 2009 they made up 46,8% of the total volume of production, and in 2008 did not exceed 40,3%.
The analysts of «Autostat» assume that about a million cars will be produced in Russia till the end of 2010. In its turn, Association of European Businesses forecasts annual sales at the level of 1,67 mln cars. The forecast includes imported cars as well.
According to calculations of «Autostat», by the end of 2010 production of cars in Russia will grow in comparison with the crisis 2009 year by two thirds, but will be by one third lower than in 2008, the record-breaking year for Russian car market. At that time 1,47 mln cars were produced in Russia, and in a year the production decreased to 595,8 K cars.
In the future superiority of foreign brand cars may become much more considerable: foreign companies open new productions and launch new models. In the first half year rates of production growth of cars under foreign brands passed ahead growth of production of domestic brand cars: according to the data of «ŔSM-Holding», from January till May production of foreign brand cars in Russia grew by 78% in comparison with the analogous period of last year, at the same time domestic brands increased production by 52,6%.
According to «Interfax», the Volkswagen factory in Kaluga plans to double production of cars in 2010 – from 48 500 to 90 000 cars. By 2011 VW plans to start full cycle production of its fifth model of Volkswagen Passat and can achieve full capacity – 150 K cars per year.
The Peugeot-Citroen auto concern has begun assembling near Kaluga in 2010: five-door hatchbacks Peugeot 308 and Citroen C4 are produced for the present by the semi knock-down method, in autumn they plan to launch production of crossovers-«twins» Mitsubishi Outlander, Peugeot 4007 and Citroen C-crosser and increase volumes of assembly from 150 to 200 cars a day. A full cycle factory is being built with capacity of 125 K cars per year next door to the «semi knock-down» production, which is planned to be opened in 2012.
Production of new middle-size sedan Hyundai will start from January 2011 near St. Petersburg, its première will take place at Moscow International Automobile Salon. The Korean company intends to produce 100 K cars at the St. Petersburg premises within a year, and in 2012 – up to 150 K cars.
Company Sollers unveiled its plans to increase production of cars in the Middle East: it is planned to assemble 13 K of SsangYong offroaders there till the end of the year. Ford also expands its production in Russia, having employed 230 people more for its enterprise in Vsevolozhsk: in the second quarter sales of Focus grew by 60% in comparison with the first quarter (18 760 cars for 3 months), demand on Mondeo grew as well (1375 cars in June). By September Moscow “Autoframos” will reach manufacturing capacity (160 K cars per year), according to «Interfax». By that time it is planned to produce 30 cars per hour at the factory. As a result of increase in capacity the factory assembly line became longer for appr. 60 car places.
Together with this in 2010 production of «AvtoVaz» is also increasing: after start of cash-for clunker program in the second quarter the factory produced 138 521 cars, which exceeds production from January till March by 59 402 cars (75%).
And within seven months sales of Lada cars in Russia grew by 28,4% as compared to the analogous period of 2009; sales growth in July equaled to almost 60% – 51,8 K cars have been sold.
